Kia Orana. What a wonderful 2009 pageant we all
enjoyed - a real "NIGHT TO REMEMBER". Stunning performances by all our
contestants to a full audience. Delights, gasps of amazement and cheers all
round to all our lovely girls - you made us all very proud indeed to bring
this event together. Who's the winner? And why not on the start page of the web?
Just to keep the excitement going! If you want to see our winner then pop over
to the current title holder page!!!

Our
generally bi-annual event focuses on the
development of our young women. Our widely spread country comprises 15 islands spread
over 850,000 square miles (2.2 million square kilometres) of ocean in the middle
of the South Pacific. We lie in the centre of the
Polynesian Triangle, flanked to the west by the Kingdom of Tonga and the Samoas
and to the east by Tahiti and the islands of French Polynesia.
Our nation consists of two main groups,
one in the north and one in the south. The southern group is nine "high" islands
mainly of volcanic origin although some are virtually atolls. The majority of
the population lives in the southern group. The northern group comprises six
true atolls.
The islands are rich in artistic culture and this
is taken very seriously. You can expect in the show some excellent
performances in dance, music and creative ability. We are proud of this culture
and the Pageant is pleased to enhance and develop our girls in
order that they may take this onwards into future generations and the world at
large.
Each island has its own special dances and the
highly recognisable rhythmic drumming on the paté and movements. We hope
this year to have a number of contestants from the outer islands as well as
Rarotonga able to perform and delight the judges and audience alike. Like dance
each island also has its own characteristic music and song and competition
between the girls will be a delight to the ear.
Local crafts using local materials will also
feature in one form or another - particularly amongst the dress, style and
appearance of our young ladies before and during the pageant.
To say we are proud of our people and our
country would be an understatement. We are, and we are proud to share it with
the world. Our current title holders, and past titleholders, can be seen
